Having different streams of income is a great idea for many reasons. You can use the additional income as spending money, investing money, passive income potential, or as a cushion in case of job loss. In any case, it's ALWAYS a good idea to pick up a side hustle and start earning additional income today.

1. Start a Blog
A blog is super easy to set up and extremely cheap! However, it's not a get-rich-quick scheme. It's a long-term venture. With that being said, people can make a lot of money with a blog.
I know people that have been doing it for years that make $100,000 a month! Insane, right? Now, it takes time so don't expect that your first year, but you can start earning income rather quickly if you make an effort to learn.
In fact, I made $758 on only my 3rd month in with absolutely no experience in websites, SEO, or writing! That's actually really good as most people don't make money for a year! However, the longer you do it, the more you'll make.
Here's exactly what to do to start a money-making blog. In addition, here are all the blogging tools I use and recommend spending the least amount of money.
2. Sell Clothes Online
The easiest way to make money quickly is to sell your clothes or items around the house on eBay or Poshmark. I have been selling items on eBay since I was 15 years old and now I still make about $500 a month as an easy side hustle.
If you're undecided on which selling platform you should use, in my experience, I prefer eBay over Poshmark for many reasons, revenue included.

3. Cashback Apps
Cashback apps are such an easy way to make extra money on the side! I've checked all of them out to recommend the best ones to you. My favorite cashback app is Rakuten.
Rakuten allows you to make money back on your everyday purchases. They work with thousands of retailers and offer money-back percentages between 1% and 20% back.
I even bought a washer/dryer through Lowes on Rakuten and got 10% back! I was shocked!

Here is a super-easy way to make money! Just upload your receipts from grocery stores, retail stores, etc, and get PAID to do so!
Ibotta is an easy-to-use app that pays you for sharing your shopping receipts! Could it really get any easier than that!?

5. Do Freelance Work Online
There are many websites you can offer your skills and services to do freelance work online. There are even people making $300,000-$400,000 a year doing this.
Fiverr and Upwork are two sites I've seen people have good success with. You can design logos, help with website design, create book covers, do marketing, offer admin help, and pretty much anything else you can think of, etc.
People are looking for help online more than ever before so it's a great time to freelance for some extra cash!
If you don't know how to do graphic design, watch some youtube videos and teach yourself! These days, everything can be taught by looking online.
6. Fill out Online Surveys
One of the easiest ways to make money online is by filling out surveys! My favorite app for doing just that is called Swagbucks!
The surveys lengths and monetary value vary, but some are only 20 minutes long and offer $50! Others are longer and others are shorter!
Either way, it's fun to just sit back and watch a TV show while filling out online surveys!

You know what they say. A penny saved is a penny earned. This couldn't be more true!
You know how you sign up for a deal promotion on an internet or a TV service and then a year later, the price skyrockets? Negotiate those bills down!
It does take some perseverance and maybe an hour or two to kill. Luckily, there's an automated solution and that doesn't cost anything!

10. Get a Roommate
This is actually my FAVORITE way to get extra cash quickly. Get a roommate!
When I first moved into my home, my girlfriend lived with me for $1500 a month. I loved having her and it helped me pay my mortgage. What a win-win!
If you have an extra room in your house, it's a great way to earn extra income. It's not weird in big cities! In fact, it's actually weird when people don't have roommates in big cities, so don't feel awkward about it.
It's actually awesome! I miss those days!
11. Learn to Fix Things
I am not joking. If you can Youtube things that are broken in your home instead of calling someone, that is money in your pocket!
We literally google EVERYTHING!! I've fixed my washing machine, my sinks, faucets, tile, car, phones, TV, drone, clothing, etc. You can learn anything on Youtube.
I highly recommend learning a new skill next time something breaks instead of paying someone to fix it. Instant cash savings in your pocket!

12. Invest in REITs
REITS, aka real estate investment trusts, allow you to invest in diversified real estate.
You can purchase REITs on the New York Stock Exchange like you would a normal stock. However, REITs own income-producing real estate so they often offer you a cut of the profits for investing in the company.
It's a unique way to own real estate as many of them own apartments, condos, storage sheds, shopping malls, hotels, etc.
13. Invest in Real Estate through Fundrise
This is an endorsement in partnership with Fundrise. We earn a commission from partner links on thefinancialcookbook.com. All opinions are my own.
Fundrise is a new concept, but it allows any person to invest in real estate with essentially any amount of money, assuming you meet the minimum threshold for the specified project.
I actually quite love the concept and am looking at a few projects as we speak.
If you can only afford $1,000 and the project is seeking $100,000, then you will own 1% of the project and receive 1% of the profits. There are additional fees to it, etc, but it gives any person the opportunity to invest in real estate!
14. Invest in the Stock Market

The biggest billionaires in the world are huge investors. There's a big reason for that. Investing in the stock market can make people very rich.
I know teachers that are multi millionaires due to investing in the stock market.

I think ThumbTack is a genius idea! You know how sometimes you need help moving to a new place, but all your friends are busy? Jump on Thumbtack and hire someone for $50 to help you!
Well…you can do the same thing to earn money! Offer your services to others!
If you can help with administrative tasks, moving, letter writing, home projects, etc, you have an opportunity to earn endless amounts of additional income!
16. Dog Walking and Dog Sitting
Try dog sitting or dog walking! This actually pays pretty decently considering people really want good care for their dogs.
You can sign up to be a dog sitter or dog walker at Rover. Here, you will build a profile advertising yourself and your services. People will book you for jobs when they go out of town or need someone to walk their dog.
I have a friend making $50 an hour every day just for walking a neighbors dog on their lunch break. I also have a friend that earns $300 a day when she does it. Insane amount of money for easy (and fun) work!
17. Rent Out Your Assets
Do you have a car, a tool, a piece of equipment, a bike, a paddleboard, clothing, a snowboard, a drone, a camera or anything else that someone may want to rent?
You can actually rent out your assets by advertising on Craigslist or through websites designed for that specific purpose!
Here are some rentable websites that allow you to rent out your items:
- FatLlama– You can rent out anything you'd like and you even set your own price!
- Loanables– Rent anything you'd like!
- Rent My Wardrobe– Rent out your clothing.
- Store At My House– Rent out storage space in your home.
- Getaround– Rent out your car.
- Turo- Another website you can rent your car.
- Spot Hero– Rent out a parking spot.
- Swimply– Rent out your pool.
18. Babysit
Babysitting or nannying is seriously one of the easiest ways to make money. I babysat all through high school and made $20 an hour at that time. Now, babysitters are making $30-$40 an hour per child.
It's an easy job. Just advertise your services by printing flyers and putting an ad on every neighbor's door with a picture of you and a background description about you.
It's such an easy way to get the word out and get booked quickly!
Heck, just come to my neighborhood! There are kids EVERYWHERE and the parents look like they need a night out. =P
19. Drive for Uber/Lyft

Learn how to do dropshipping!
People are making millions dropshipping these days. It's really not that hard actually but could take some time to get set up and advertise. However, once it's rocking and rolling, you're good to go!
Here are the steps to take to start your own dropshipping business:
- Design a saying, logo, or graphic.
- Find a company that will print your logo or graphic. There are tons! Just google search “dropshipping company”.
- Start a website by following these steps or open a Etsy account.
- Connect your site to Shopify (if setting up your own site) (Skip if doing Etsy).
- Market your products on social media for free.
- When a customer purchases, just order that product with the design they chose on the dropshipping website.
- The product will ship directly to the customer.
- Done!
23. Start an Online Clothing Boutique
Starting an online clothing boutique is easier than ever before!
Get your business license, find wholesale clothing and items to sell (there are hundreds of websites), start advertising on social media, give your products to influencers for free advertising, and then sell!
Ok, I made it sound really easy there. It's a bit harder than that, but honestly, anyone can do it.
Watch some YouTube Channels that give you step by step to get up and running in no time!
24. Sell a Product on Amazon FBA
Did you know you can sell a product on Amazon and get paid for it?
I've seen many, many YouTube videos on this and even thought about doing it. There are hundreds of people that teach the exact steps to sell a product on Amazon FBA.
You can source products on Alibaba, customize them to fit your brand, and then sell them on Amazon! People are making millions doing this. If you know what you're doing and do your research, it can be extremely lucrative!
This guy is fairly good at it and breaks it down in a step by step way for beginners.
25. Make a Course
Online courses are doing really well right now. Make a course about something you are passionate about and know a lot about. Post it and market it on social media to make money on it!
Make sure you have good content to share with the world and you'll be successful!

26. Buy and Sell Domain Names
This is something I do myself! I see domains as real estate. There's only one of them and once it's gone, it's gone!
Hint: A domain is the URL of the website. For example, my domain is thefinancialcookbook.com.
Go to NameCheap or Bluehost and purchase a good domain name that you think has good resale value.
Purchase the domain name and then list it in the domain marketplace for a profit.
27. Do Retail Arbitrage
Ever heard of retail arbitrage?
This sounds more confusing than it is, but it's actually quite simple!
You source products at places like Ross, Marshalls, Walmart, Dollar Tree, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods. You look for items that are heavily discounted from the price they sell for in the retail store.
Then, look on Amazon to see how much they're selling for. Products on Amazon often sell for more because people are paying for the convenience of getting the item sent to their house.
List your low cost items on Amazon and make a profit! There are many videos on youtube that show exactly how to do this. A bonus is that Amazon holds your inventory for you!
In my opinion, these guys know their stuff and will teach you EXACTLY what to do to be successful doing this.
28. Sell a Journal
Are you creative and like designing graphics? This may be the side hustle for you!
There are many people who design journal covers to sell on Amazon. It's actually quite easy to do.
You will design a journal in Canva and then upload the graphic to Amazon. Amazon will post your journal cover online and when someone purchases it, they print the journal with lined pages inside and ship it to the customer.
You never hold inventory and never have to print anything yourself. Some people are making hundreds of thousands doing this!
29. Meet Your Weight Goals
Did you know you can get PAID for losing weight, based on your weight goals YOU DECIDE on?
Yep, it's true! I've actually done it myself 4 times!
I personally used the app DietBet. It's simple to use and I entered my own personal goals. You join a group challenge and everyone puts a certain amount of money in the pot and bets that they will lose their weight goal.
At the end of the challenge, the ones that meet their weight goal get to split the pot!
I did 4-week challenges and each time, I made about $45. Good luck!
30. Be a Photographer
These days, it's easier than ever to be a photographer. People love pictures and building memories. Cameras are so good these days and photo editing apps are free.
Get yourself a nice camera or start by offering photos with your smartphone and then work up to a larger camera. Photographers can make a lot of money.
This brings me to my next idea.
31. Sell Drone Services
Drones are the newest, hottest thing. Get a drone and sell drone videos to real estate agents or wedding planners. Market your services to them and take drone videos of their properties for sale or events.
Drone videos are a very easy way to make extra cash because it's a new concept, not many people have drones, not many people know how to use drones, and drone videos sell real estate properties fast!
They would also be good for the event industry, parties, etc!
My friend is very into drones and has a drone business himself. He says this is the drone he uses in his business.
32. Start a Picnic/Bonfire Business
In my city, these businesses are HUGE!! In fact, I'm constantly looking up ones in my area to use for events like birthdays, anniversaries, mother's day, etc.
Buy some cute blankets, chairs, a table, maybe an umbrella, etc. Set up nice picnic settings for people.
I LOVE this business because I always want to do nice, gorgeous picnics, but the work involved for me to go set up an hour before people arrive is often too much for me and then I'm all sweaty and gross. Plus, I wouldn't be able to GO WITH my guests to the party. I'd have to go before them. I love these picnic businesses for that reason.
Plus, if I were to buy all the stuff just for one picnic, it would cost me too much.
These are such an easy business idea, especially in an era where EVERYONE wants that good Instagram picture!
33. Sell Donuts or Candy in the Office
This one may seem silly, but it's actually not. In fact, someone made a huge business by doing this.
First, they started by leaving a box of donuts out at the office with a sign that said $1 and a jar. At the end of the day, he'd collect the money.
He started adding more boxes. Soon, he was making so much money from it, he realized it could be a business. He then expanded it to additional offices and soon after, he quit his job to start a donut and bagel business for offices!
Start with your office tomorrow and see how much you make!
I wish I worked in an office because I would totally do this! Since I work from home…I'd be the only one buying them. =( haha!
Ways to Make Money from Home
34. Mow Lawns and Do Yardwork for Neighbors
This is probably one of the easiest ways to make money. My brother even did this when he was 11.
Print out a flyer, with your picture and a description of you. Make sure to explain that you live in the neighborhood. In the flyer, explain the yard work you can do for them to help save them time.
Next, walk your neighborhood and go door to door introducing yourself. For each person that answers, give them a flyer. Anyone that doesn't answer the door, leave the flyer on their doorstep.
I can almost guarantee you'll start to get calls really quickly! Neighbors want to help out other neighbors.

35. Garage Sale
Garage sales are probably my favorite way to make easy money. I have been doing garage sales ever since I can remember.
My mom taught me how to throw a garage sale at a young age. I would sell the donuts and coffee on the side at her garage sales. When I become old enough, I'd collect items from around the house and ask the neighbors for items they'd like to get rid of that they'd like to donate to my garage sale. (It helps if you have a goal to tell them you want to reach like you want to buy a new bike.)
Places to Source Items for a Garage Sale:
- Items around the house
- Items from neighbors
- Other garage sales. People often sell things for 50 cents. Perhaps you can sell it for $1 at yours.
- The “free” section of Craigslist
- Ask friends. I've done this a few times. I threw a garage sale in my 20s for a fundraiser and asked my friends for any items they wanted to get rid of.
Then, advertise your garage sale for free on Craigslist and social media. This continues to be a fantastic way to make money.
36. Flip Items
Gary Vee says this is the BEST way to make money…and it's true! It's actually how I started making money when I was younger. I started my own eBay business this way!
Here are the steps to follow:
- Go to your local Craigslist site.
2. Go to the category “free items”.
3. Find free items and go pick them up.
4. Resell these items on OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist for a profit.
People get rid of stuff for free all the time because they don't want to deal with the hassle of selling it themselves. They're either on a tight time frame and need the item out or they don't care about the money/don't have time.
There are some things I sell for money and other things I simply list for free because I need them out of my house fast.
37. Offer to Do an “Old Item” PickUp for Your Neighborhood
Did you know you can't just throw a chair out into your home garbage can? The garbagemen won't pick it up.
Same thing with TVs, computers, lamps, etc.
These big items require them to be disposed of properly so people often take them to a Goodwill or take them to the dump and PAY to dispose of them.
Instead, put a flyer on all of your neighbor's doors that on a certain date, you are going to come by and pick up anything they don't want in their home to take it off their hands for them. You can preface it as a great push to do spring cleaning now and you'll save them a trip to the Goodwill or dump.
Explain that it doesn't matter the condition of the item.
Then, when you pick up the items, you can go through them and sell the things that you can make money with on Craigslist, OfferUp, and Facebook Marketplace. Boom! Easy money!
Hint: I did this when I was fundraising for St. Jude and made $1000 selling my neighbors items.
You can even tell them that 10% of the profits will go to a charity…and then follow up by actually doing it (and get a tax write off)!
Make Money with Homes
38. Real Estate Marketing
Here's a unique one I'm sure you haven't heard. Become a real estate marketer with absolutely no experience whatsoever.
- Go to zillow.com or realtor.com.
- Find a house that is for sale.
- Find the real estate agent that is selling that house.
- Go to Canva.com and sign up for a free account.
- Click on Design and then click on Instagram Post.
- Take a picture from the real estate listing and put it into your instagram post.
- Add some text details about the listing as well as the purchase price.
- Next, add in the realtors picture and contact information.
- Add the word “SAMPLE” in large letters over the top of the entire IG Post.
- Email the realtor and attach the IG Post. Introduce yourself and who you are. Tell them you work with realtors on their social media marketing so they don't have to spend the time doing it, as they are very busy. Here is a sample for one of their listings they can have today for $XX (name a price). (I'm thinking $25-$50 is fine, but if you want to charge $5 or $10 to ensure you get a few customers at first, do it!!)
- If they agree to a price with you, remove the world “SAMPLE” and send them the perfect copy.
- Rinse and repeat.
39. House Sit
Yes, people pay money for others to house sit their homes! This sounds like a dream job to me! You can sign up to be a house sitter by going to Trusted House Sitters.
The rate you are paid is based on the homeowner's decision, wants, and needs.
40. Do a Home Exchange
This is something I actually do! I exchange my home with others from around the world. They stay in my home while I stay in their home. This is a great hack to save money on vacations!
So how do you make money?
Well, instead of trading with others, you can simply allow someone to stay in your home in exchange for Guest Points. These guest points can be redeemed for vacations in other people's homes.
So while the money can only be used for staying in other people's homes, it's a great way to make money for your future vacations!

41. Become an Instagram Influencer
The “influencer” industry has become extremely lucrative. Brands are advertising on social media now more than ever. They know people are glued to their phones and put a lot of trust in influencers.
Many of the influencers you know are making MILLIONS showing clothes and sunglasses. It's absolutely INSANE.
It's not too saturated yet and there's still time to get in. You can start today for zero dollars.
42. Make TikToks
Did you know TikTok gives you money for creating videos? It doesn't matter what type of video. You simply get paid based on how many views you get.
One of my videos alone made me $79. (If you aren't following me, let's be friends on TikTok!) I didn't even know they paid money so that was quite a fun surprise!
The best part is, the content doesn't matter. It can be a dance video, sport-related, instructional, etc. The ones that do the best are entertaining, educational, or emotional.
43. Be a YouTube Star
Holy smokes, people on YouTube make a TON of money. It's actually quite amazing!
But, why isn't everyone doing it? It is HARD! One video can take 2-3 days to film and edit into something that has the potential to go viral. The people you see making tons of money are well known and are a small percentage of all the content creators out there.
It's definitely not a get-rich-quick job, but if you have something to share with the world, are creative, and are determined, I know you can do it too!
44. Be a Social Media Manager
There are so many people with this title nowadays, but it's because this is in demand. Businesses need help managing their social media so that they can focus more on the business. I sure know I need help!
Learn the ins and outs of social media and then start offering services to businesses for a fee! Businesses will pay big dollars for this, especially if you're good at it!
45. Start a Podcast
Starting a podcast is actually not that hard these days! There's little to no start-up cost and you can get guests on your show pretty easily!
In fact, you can start a podcast for less than $50! I even took a class on how to do it. It's fairly straightforward!
Think about a topic you're passionate about that you'd like to share with others and then run with it!
People love to be interviewed so that's easy to find!
